Winter update

It’s been a strange few months for everyone. With cities in Australia locking down, and businesses having to adapt to a new way of working during Covid-19. Although business has been somewhat quieter, some services have really been picking up.

One part of my work, event photography, has completely stopped, as events are moving online. However with many businesses moving to a delivery model, I have been doing a lot more product photography, as well as portraits of business owners, so they can tell the story of their business to potential customers online.

Another thing that has really picked up during Covid-19 are my shoots for online dating profiles. With people not able to head out and socialise in bars and other settings, a lot more people are using online dating apps to meet new people and start relationships.

I’m looking forward to getting back into event photography and live music photography (my favourite type of photography), but it’s been a good time to focus on working on my business and not just working for my business.

August Update

Hi there, it’s been a while between posts. What’s up?

We’ve just renewed the lease for another year, so we’re still here in Leichhardt!

Drone images are popular! People have been purchasing prints from my aerial work, taken with a drone. A few people also took advantage of my recent special on my print store too. It’s always a great feeling knowing that my art is hanging on someones wall and bringing them joy.

I’ve also had a lot of Sydney guys book me in to take professional photos for their online dating profiles this winter, I think more people are realising this is a service!

Recently I travelled to Tamworth, Australia’s country music capital. I was there to visit a friend, but got some great footage and photos during my time there. Follow me on Instagram to get a preview, I’ll have a short video edited soon.

The days are starting to get longer, and I am looking forward to summer coming back!

Head On Photo Festival Leichhardt

I just got back from Head On Photo Festival’s exhibition in Leichhardt, where I got to meet two of the exhibiting photographers.

The first was Remy Gerega, who was exhibiting amazing aerial photos of Shark Bay in Western Australia. Secondly was Luca Altamore, who had documented the West Connex Project in Sydney, and its impact on inner western Sydney communities.

You can view the full listing of photography exhibitions happening as part of Head On Photo Festival here.

Leichhardt Blog

I haven’t written a lot on the blog for quite some time. We are now based out of Leichhardt, which is a lot better suited to running a photography business which services a lot of clients in the CBD.

In addition to photography, I have been producing more video work. From a recent commercial, to live band performances and seminars on social media.

Events have long been a core part of my photography business, particularly music events. My work as a newspaper photographer also meant a lot of event photography, so it has been fun covering events here in Sydney.

Being central in Sydney has also allowed me to really push my tinder photo shoots to clients. It’s an idea that has proved popular with guys in Sydney. There was a rush on tinder shoot bookings at the start of summer. The demand died off somewhat towards the end of summer, but I’m now receiving more enquiries for tinder shoots again.

I’ve also recently been getting into drone photography and videography. Sydney has such a picturesque coast line, and has been such a great place to learn to fly a drone. Sydney’s ocean pools are also something unique for me to photograph, as they aren’t something I’m used to as a Perth kid.

For the rest of 2017 I’m keen to push my corporate photography to a wider audience, as well as gain some more music industry clients. I’m also very keen to fill up my video show reel with more of Sydney’s beautiful coast line.

Vivid Sydney 2015

Vivid Sydney 2015

It was a bit of wet start to Vivid Sydney 2015, but that didn’t put me off. Got rugged up in my wet weather gear and went to Circular Quay to take some photos and footage.

This is my first time at Vivid, so I’m keen to get around and check it all out over the coming nights.

Here’s a quick edit of some footage I took tonight.

Sculpture by the Sea

Sculpture by the Sea at Cottesloe Beach starts today. Nicole and I headed down this morning to get an early peek. Great pieces this year including a giant “goon bag” (Aussie slang for a wine cask).

Many of this year’s pieces speak of the conservation and protection of our marine environment and coastlines, issues which are becoming more and more important in recent years.

Blues @ Mojos Fremantle

I headed down to Mojos in North Fremantle last night with the crew from Kulcha.

It was blues night, and boy were there some blues played there.

Mojos is up there with one of my favourite venues in WA, and it didn’t disappoint with a night of amazing blues musicians.

On the bill were Anton Thomas, Mitch Becker with Jean Guy De Miere on Harmonica, followed by Lloyd Spiegel with Arun Satgunasingam on percussion.

Here are my photos from the night.

Concert For The Kimberley, Fremantle

A huge crowd turned out today in Fremantle for Concert For The Kimberley, featuring Missy Higgins and John Butler. South Terrace was filled with thousands of people protesting the development of James Price Point as a gas hub.

The development of James Price Point is a contentious issue, which is opposed by a majority of Broome residents, people around Australia, and internationally.
