Digital Imaging Technician (DIT) Perth

I work as a Digital Imaging Technician and Dailies DIT on film, television and commercial productions in Perth and throughout Western Australia.

My role covers the secure handling of camera media from set through to post-production, including verified offload, backup, media management, transcoding, quality control, colour workflows and dailies delivery.

With a background spanning IT, photography, cinematography and digital imaging, I bring both technical and visual experience to the role, with a strong focus on reliable workflows, data integrity and clear communication between camera and post-production departments.

On-Set & Dailies DIT

Every production has different requirements, from small commercial shoots through to long-form film and television productions generating multiple terabytes of camera media each day.

I work with production, camera and post teams to establish workflows suited to the camera formats, shooting schedule, storage requirements and delivery specifications of each project.

DIT and dailies services can include:

  • Verified camera card offload
  • Data integrity and checksum verification
  • Primary and secondary backups
  • Media organisation and management
  • Camera roll and sound roll tracking
  • Transcoding and proxy creation
  • Dailies preparation
  • Image and audio QC
  • Colour management
  • LUT application and management
  • Live and near-set colour workflows
  • Metadata management
  • Still frame and reference exports
  • Upload and delivery to editorial or post-production
  • Storage management and production archiving
  • Troubleshooting camera, storage and workflow issues

Data Management & Media Security

Camera media is one of the most valuable assets on any production.

My workflows are built around verified transfers, redundancy and clear tracking of production media throughout the process.

Depending on the production, camera media can be copied to multiple storage destinations while checksum verification confirms that transferred data matches the original source media.

Storage, backup and handover procedures can be tailored to production and post-production requirements, including high-volume workflows for modern cinema cameras and RAW acquisition formats.

Dailies & Transcoding

I can prepare editorial and review media alongside camera-original files.

Dailies workflows can include transcoding to editorial formats, applying production LUTs or colour decisions, syncing audio where required, managing metadata and carrying out QC before delivery.

Files can then be prepared for editorial, post-production, remote review or upload according to the production’s agreed workflow.

The aim is to provide post-production with organised, consistent and reliable material while identifying technical issues as early as possible.

Colour Workflows

My background as a photographer and cinematographer gives me a strong understanding of exposure, colour and image reproduction alongside the technical requirements of data management.

Depending on the production, I can assist with:

  • Show LUT management
  • CDL and colour metadata
  • Monitoring workflows
  • Look management
  • Reference stills
  • Colour-consistent dailies
  • Communication of colour decisions between set and post-production

Live colour and more advanced colour-managed workflows can also be incorporated where required.

Quality Control

DIT work is not simply copying files.

Camera media and dailies can be checked for issues including image integrity, unexpected exposure or colour problems, corrupt files, dropped frames, audio concerns and other technical problems that may affect post-production.

Identifying issues while a production is still shooting can save considerable time and expense later.

High-Volume Cinema Camera Workflows

Modern cinema cameras can generate very large quantities of data, particularly when shooting RAW or high-resolution formats.

I have experience managing multi-terabyte daily data loads and developing workflows that balance transfer speed, verification, redundancy, transcoding and delivery requirements.

Workflow planning can take place before production begins so that storage, hardware and turnaround times are appropriate for the expected shooting ratio, camera format and production schedule.

DIT Equipment & Production Kit

DIT equipment can be configured around the requirements of each production.

Depending on the job, this may include:

  • High-performance DIT workstation
  • High-speed camera media readers
  • Thunderbolt and high-bandwidth storage
  • Production RAID storage
  • Backup drives
  • Calibrated monitoring
  • Networking and upload capability
  • UPS and power management
  • On-set or near-set workstation configuration

For longer productions, storage capacity and redundancy can be planned around expected daily data volumes before the shoot begins.

Film & Television Experience

I understand the importance of maintaining an efficient relationship between the camera department, production, editorial and post-production.

DIT workflows can be adapted around the needs of the cinematographer, camera department, editor, post supervisor and production schedule rather than forcing every production into the same system.

My broader experience across camera, photography and IT also means I’m comfortable troubleshooting technical problems under production conditions and finding practical solutions without unnecessarily interrupting the shoot.

DIT in Perth & Western Australia

I’m based in Perth and available for feature films, television drama, documentaries, commercials and other screen productions throughout Western Australia.

Travel to regional and remote locations can also be arranged, as well as interstate work when required.

For longer productions, I can work with production and post teams during pre-production to plan storage, hardware, dailies, colour and delivery workflows before cameras roll.

Discuss Your Production

If you require a Digital Imaging Technician, Dailies DIT or data workflow support for an upcoming production, get in touch with as much information as you have available.

Useful details include:

  • Production dates
  • Location
  • Camera model and recording format
  • Number of cameras
  • Estimated shooting ratio or daily data volume
  • Required backup copies
  • Editorial codec and resolution
  • Dailies requirements
  • Colour workflow
  • Upload or post-production delivery requirements

If those details haven’t been finalised yet, I can also help work through the technical requirements and determine an appropriate workflow before production begins.
