Blazing Swan Portraits on Expired Fuji Velvia

This was my first Blazing Swan, and I took along a Halina A1 TLR loaded with Fuji Velvia 120 that expired in 2006.

I was staying with Kamp Klimax and attending as an official Blazing Swan photographer. Not long after arriving, I was whisked off in the mutant vehicle parade, which was a pretty fitting introduction to the event.

The portraits here were all made around sunset, in the hours before the Temple Burn.

Shooting expired slide film on an old twin-lens reflex felt like the right way to approach it. No checking the back of the camera, no knowing exactly what I had, and only a handful of frames to work with.

I simply wandered around, met people, asked if I could make their portrait, and worked with the last of the afternoon light.

Photography & Consent

Consent is an important part of photography at Blazing Swan. Being an official photographer does not mean people automatically consent to being photographed or having their image published.

The portraits in this series were made with the participation of the people photographed.

If you appear in one of these images and would prefer it removed, please contact me. No explanation is necessary.

These are a few portraits from one sunset at my first Blazing Swan, photographed on a camera and roll of film that were both a little unpredictable.
