After photographing hundreds of people for online dating profiles, I now offer photography tours outside my regular Perth and Sydney sessions, including cities such as Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.
The aim is simple: create a varied collection of relaxed, flattering photographs that look like you, rather than like a formal professional photoshoot.

Once at least three people have registered interest in the same location, I can begin looking at suitable dates and contact everyone who has registered.

How Does It Work?
We start with a chat so I can get to know you a little and help you relax in front of the camera.
Most people aren’t completely comfortable being photographed, so I’ll give you direction throughout the session. You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands.
If you’d like to start with a coffee, that’s fine too.
During the shoot we’ll usually move between several nearby locations, creating different backgrounds and moods. Bringing a few different outfits gives us even more variety and helps the final set of photographs feel as though they weren’t all taken on the same occasion.
Afterwards, I select the strongest images and provide a gallery of proofs.
You then choose your favourites based on the number included in your package. Your selected photographs are professionally colour corrected and naturally retouched before delivery.
The objective is to make you look your best while still looking like the person your date is actually going to meet.
What Kind of Photos Do We Take?
A strong dating profile usually benefits from variety rather than several versions of the same portrait.
Depending on the shoot, we can create a mixture of:
- Relaxed portraits
- Casual lifestyle photographs
- Full-length images
- Smart or more dressed-up looks
- Urban settings
- Parks and outdoor locations
- Café and social environments
- Photographs that show your personality or interests
And yes, we can probably come up with something more interesting than another bathroom selfie, cropped group photograph or picture holding a fish.
Why Professional Dating Profile Photography?
Your profile photographs are often the first thing someone sees.
Good photographs won’t change who you are, but they can do a much better job of showing your personality, appearance and interests than a random collection of old phone photos.
I’ve worked professionally as a photographer for more than 16 years and have photographed hundreds of people specifically for online dating profiles.
My approach is relaxed and collaborative. The aim isn’t to turn you into somebody else. It’s to create photographs that show you confidently and naturally.

I’ve recently been quoted in British GQ about what makes the best tinder photos.
From David Levesley’s story:
While professional Tinder photographer Jordan Shields also says to avoid group shots, he suggests you replace them with photos where you’re doing activities “that perhaps the other person could see themselves doing with you. Sell yourself as the dream guy that someone wants to spend time with, [doing] whatever it is you do.”
“Do wear new or dry-cleaned clothes, no faded polo shirts,” adds Shields. “Even a new white T-shirt looks nice.” Dress to impress and make sure your grooming is up to snuff too. “Do neaten up your beard or facial hair, or go clean-shaven,” says Shields. “It can’t be somewhere in the middle.”
For Jordan Shields, some things are pretty dependable: “medium shots, basically portraits from the waist up” are best, he says. For day looks appear relaxed, for evening shots make sure you’re dressed up for a night on the town.
Other things, however, are far from gospel. “It really does differ from guy to guy. Some men get better results smiling and looking at the camera, some find looking away and being more serious in their photos works better, but I’m sure that says more about what others are attracted to, so why not try both?”
